About 10 or 12 years ago, before kids and before the Army, I played Fantasy Baseball to some success and to much enjoyment. I played for two main reasons. First, to simply have fun with it. Fantasy Baseball is a fun and unique way to enjoy baseball. Throughout the season, after you pick the players, you manage the rosters and the team to make sure your team of players have the highest statistical success on the diamond. The second reason to play is to keep up with the baseball season. Because you are watching the statistics of players across Major League Baseball, you are able to keep up with all of the other teams as they play their games. Playing Fantasy Baseball also helps you see the rest of the league and keep interested, even after your real team may not be headed for the World Series.
So, this year, for the same reasons, I am going to start a Fantasy Baseball Team once again. I’ve gone back and forth over the last ten years trying to decide if I would get back in—this year I said I’d give it another shot. Now, with apps and other tools, the Fantasy Baseball game is much more accessible. Some people pay into a league and then the winner takes a prize—I don’t do that. I am simply going to log on to Yahoo.com (the same service I used before) and pick put a free team and just enjoy the game. It will hopefully be a fulfilling year—I hope the Reds will win the World Series, but if not at least I have a shot at my league title!
