About a week before my R&R leave, I received two Filter For Good bottle packs in a care package. I gave one away, but because they are not very useful here–I took it home where it would be useful.
Here in Iraq, we use bottle water for health concerns and, in most cases, that is all there is. The water quality is simply not good enough to run through the faucets. We do unfortunately use a massive amount of plastic water bottles.
While I was at home, I also bought a Brita filter for the sink. I filled my bottle every night and drank it the next day. It was wonderful water through the filter and I was able to take it with me through my morning.
“Americans throw away 2 million plastic bottles every five minutes”, says Scientific American Earth 3.0. I am glad that I can do my part in reducing some of that through reusing my water bottle. And the water is just as good and just as convenient.

I LOVE the idea for this week’s series! We used a Brita pitcher in France because we were unsure of the pipes in the house. Our fridge in the new house has an in-line filter for the ice maker and water dispenser. Now I just need to buy some good quality water bottles to reuse.
