My 2015 baseball card season started today with the arrival of the 2015 Topps Heritage Packs. And I must say that I am very excited about the year in card collecting! I went to my local Target for my first packs—but there was nothing there! I decided to brave WalMart and see if they had received the cards. What I found was several different option to choose from. The Topps Heritage set includes today’s (2015) players on the 1966 card design. The design is simple and straight forward. It is a great way to get the years started!
I opened my first packs to find a silver coated #-D type card and the matching regular card for the Cincinatti Reds Starting Pitcher Johnny Cueto. Being a Reds fan, this was probably my most memoralble find. It was exciting enough to get the silver coated one, but to later pull the regular card—that was extra exciting!
I pulled some other Reds along the way, namely Brandon Phillips and Homer Bailey. Its good to see them in my collection right off the bat! I’m hoping to see a Joey Votto card soon!
Along with the many other cards, there were several gems that I went ahead and placed in a plastic sleeve to protect the cards. This year I hope to build the set throughout the year. The struggle always comes when it gets closer to the end of the deck, when there are more duplicates being pulled. This set looks nice to me. I always enjoy the photography that the Topps photographers select for these Heritage cards—they are unique to the set.
One final pull in the cards that I picked up today, was a Flashback card commemorating Ronald Reagan’s Election to become the governor of California. It was a nice addition to start off this year’s collection.
