In 2012, I was fairly active on twitter and a new app began catching my attention. As I watched Monica upload photos onto Instagram, I became more and more interested. I didn’t have an iPhone at the time and Samsung was not producing smart phones yet. But, on the phone I had, I was able to upload photos onto Instagram.
As I mentioned, I was active on twitter, but there was no family on twitter. Twitter, back them, was also primarily text messages. So, before long, I loaded Instagram on my little phone and took a photo.
That photo was a picture of my daughter Mary Catherine. I took this photo on November 10, 2012 as she was on her way to play in her first piano recital. We were stationed at Fort Jackson that fall for six months while I attended that Chaplain Captain’s Career Course. Our church at the time, Shandon Baptist Church, had a wonderful little music program where they offered piano lessons. Both of our oldest girls were seven that year, and we decided to place them in piano lessons to see if they would enjoy it, while we had the opportunity. At the end of the semester, they were all to perform in a recital. It was great to capture that moment on my little phone. I even added a little filter to get me started.
We moved to El Paso two months later where I began taking more and more Instagram photos of all of the kids in our family. But, it started with this little smile from Mary Catherine.
