Many people don’t know that I once worked at the front desk at four different hotels. I was able to see all aspects of the operation of a hotel and came to appreciate good hotels versus not so good hotels. Now, ten years, or so, later I have been traveling more and more and I wanted to state where I prefer to lay my head.
Westin Hotels—When I have the opportunity, this is my first choice. Given the prices, at times, I have to stay somewhere else. But, in my opinion, you can’t beat the Westin in comfort and professionalism.
aloft Hotels—Another Starwood Property, aloft Hotel is a trendy and, sometimes cheaper alternative to the Westin. Most of these are new and well maintained. They have a different atmosphere to them from other hotels, a younger crowd and a professional crowd. This is nice to be around when I’m really trying to get down to business, but have a moment to take a break.
Courtyard by Marriott—I’ve been staying in these much more often than I ever have lately—and I’ve been impressed. As with any property, each hotel has its strengths and weaknesses—but as a brand they do very well to provide a great place to stay for the price.I’m pretty loyal to my hotels and the Courtyard, recently stole my away from the Holiday Inn brands.
Holiday Inn Express—I worked for Holiday Inns—Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, and Holiday Inn Express—for a very long time and this always feel like home. I know my way around most of them, so this is always a plus. They are always clean and efficient. With that said, the hotel experience doesn’t quite match up to the professionalism and attention to detail that I’ve experienced with the Courtyards. But, if nothing else of the above are available—I will gladly stop in at the hotel I know so well.
