With moving from pace to place into increasingly remote towns, I have less and less opportunity to frequent a local comic shop. I love to visit the local shops, however, a good one takes time to find and typically they are farther away than I wish to drive. The stand-by comic shops for me, then, have become the online comic shops. Three shops that I monitor frequently for sales and events are key ingredients to keeping my comic collection on track.
My primary comic shop is Midtown Comics in New York City. I have been subscribing from them for about 10 years and they continue to provide great service to me as I move and as I adjust my collection. This where all of my new issues come from.
A second store I use when I look for back issues is MyComicShop.com. MyComicShop.com has grown from the local shop called “Lone Star Comics” that opened as a mail order shop in the 1960s. I use it as a primary place to find low priced back issues. It is a great place to dig when I am looking at adding a storyline to a collection or filling in holes. They do offer subscriptions and auctions. They also offer to buy comics for their inventories as well, but I have never used them.
A third store that I look into when I am buying back issues in Mile High Comics from Denver, Colorado. Another store that began in the 1960s, Mile High is a great place to find the rare hard to find issues. They may actually have the largest inventory on the internet, so for harder to find items this is the place to look.
These are the three comic shops that I look to on the internet. Occasionally, I will run across a new site, but I haven’t found anything that matches these sites.
If you have a site that may be good to check out, I would love to hear about it in the comments!
