Reading the first meeting on Hal Jordan and Sinestro sends chills down my back.
We see Hal Jordan being the brazen fighter pilot, fighting to the last moment—bucking authority and standing up for what he believes. We see Sinestro-experienced and equally as cocky—in his first face off with Jordan. This origin story is well placed as it fleshes out the relationship between Sinestro and the Green Lanterns.
But, it draws conflict. Knowing what will become of Sinestro—what will happen in the Sinestro Corps and how they fall; makes you cringe at the sight of him. This conflict causes a tension that would never exist if the storyline of the previous issues were not fresh in the mind.
This proves the brilliance of Geoff Johns and his writing.
We also see conflict with the flight career of Hal Jordan—even though Sinestro fixed the air craft—Hal is still in trouble. Do they not understand that on Earth humans need the other things in life to do the work of a superhero? I guess not. It is an important part of the story—it adds tremendously to the character of Hal Jordan and how he develops in his role as the Green Lantern.
Another thin issue—but enough of a story to hold the attention and the excitement of the Secret Origin arc—I look forward to more.
