Our family started 2013 with a move to El Paso, Texas. Throughout the year, we have grow to love it here. One of the earliest trips I made was up to the trans-mountain overlook with one of my daughters. There I took pictures of a part of the Franklin Mountains. In July, I was able to climb to the little rock in the middle of the above photo. Now, as we begin to think about our second and final year in El Paso, there are many other challenges before us as well.
I spent yesterday, cleaning up my comic book closet to prepare for the big year ahead. It is easy to let things slip away because; “we only have a year before we move”. But, honestly, “we have an entire year before we move!” I look forward to building on my collection and working with thousands of comic books that I own.
Comic books is only one of the things I am looking forward to in the new year. Probably the biggest focus of the new year is a sustained writing project that I outlined for 2014. I am working on it, partly, to prepare me to attend a school in the spring 0f 2015, but also to improve my writing skills for the future. I realize that nearly everything I do begins with writing–whether I am speaking, preaching, or presenting through writing. It all begins with writing–so I better do it well. That’s what that project is all about.
While there are mountains all around us–they are a constant reminder of a Camp Ridgecrest for Boys phrase that states:
God give us hills to climb and strength to climb them.
I pray that this will ring true in 2014.
