Being cooped up in the house nearly the entire Christmas Break due to snow, ice, and some projects I needed to complete, I planned this afternoon to visit a coffee shop in town Leavenworth. I wanted to spend some time simply reading, so I brought my Kindle and left my iPad. I looked forward to my visit all day long and my expectations were wonderfully met.
Monica and I had talked recently about different coffee shops in town and I was reminded of one place that I kept forgetting about. I was reminded of the Harbor Lights Coffeehouse and Café.
After I left class, I was able to pick up some lunch and quickly grab my kindle before traveling downtown. Harbor Lights is on Shawnee Street, near Fourth Street in an old restored building. I was in love with the building when I walked in and the owners have done a wonderful job maintaining the vintage feel of the building, while updating the functionality for the coffeehouse. Since I was reading and hanging around in the shop, my coffee was served in a nice mug and the coffee was definitely enjoyable on this cold afternoon.
The atmosphere of the coffee shop was nice with quiet background music. I was happy to see a steady flow of customers, enough to know that the shop is not endanger of closing tomorrow, nor so busy to be a distraction. The coffee shop was just a nice place to sit and read.
I spent a little over an hour reading there today; which was the largest time block I have had to read in a while. I hope to find a way in my schedule to make a weekly reading trip to Harbor Lights, because I really enjoyed my visit. Maybe next time, I’ll just have lunch from the café!
