I look around at my work area in my bed room and see a stack of books waiting to be read. As I look at those books, I sometimes miss the time spent in bookstores picking out a book and finding a hideaway to quietly read without distraction. I ask the question to myself: “Is digital really better?”
I love the feel of a hard back and I enjoy reading from them and turning the pages. With a hardback book or any physical copy, one can take notes inside and refer easily back through the book when you need to reference a section.
Over on my night stand is my Kindle Paperwhite. It has access to an unlimited number of books and can be read across several devices, including my iPhone and iPad. You can highlight passage and type notes onto the page and have the highlights sent to the cloud for future reference. You can also book mark pages for future reference. And it does not take up much storage. On my iPad, I can download a reference and delete it when I don’t need it anymore and rest assured that the same reference can be found if I need to refer back a year later.
I have found that, in spite of my enjoyment of the physical book, digital books are the best choice. I have read far more since I began downloading books rather than going to a bookstore or library to pick one up. For one reason, I can download it without ever leaving the house. Secondly, it is rare that I don’t have a reading device available. The convenience of having these books is amazing. The hardware and software is improving so much that it is very hard to turn back to the physical pages.
So, I made my choice. I wonder what you choose, and why?
