This past Friday, I had to take a trip to Fort Jackson which is located in Columbia, SC. In Columbia, I took time to visit the local comic book store.  I went to Heroes and Dragons. I was quite impressed by what I found there.
There is really two parts to this store. The gaming portion and the comic section.Â
The gaming section doesn’t interest me. Many times, in fact, the gamers interrupt my experience at comic stores. The people many times are talking loud, cursing and then let their children run wild. I spend much less time at a store when this is happening.  Heroes and Dragons has a the game room is off to the side in an enclosed area, which doesn’t interfere with the store operations. Then, they have a well stocked game department. I was very impressed with this thoughtfulness by the management.
The comics section was the best I have seen. It is very well lit, which was very enjoyable. The wall have magazine racks displaying the comics. The back issue island was well stocked and even include Golden Age comics. This was very nice. I really liked the pricing policy that is there. On the back issues, there is a color coded system. The store places colored dots on the outside of the comic bags: Orange=$2 (10 for $15), and Green=$5. There are other colors, but I was looking for the deals. This system was so simple and, I would assume, profitable for the owners. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, as well.
I enjoyed my visit in even if was only about a half hour, with a spending limit of $20.
