The DC comic book universe is being shaken this month by the renumbering and new beginnings of all of the DC comic book line.
This is exciting to me. I have been looking forward to this new change; not as simply “out with the old” but a truly new beginning. It has also given me a chance to make a new start as well.
Since hearing about the change, I doubled and focused my efforts to catch up on all of my titles so that when September rolled around, I could be ready to read freely and blog about my experiences~something that I have struggled with since I returned from Iraq my last time. I finally can read along with everyone else instead of waiting to finish before I felt comfortable enough to write without feeling guilty that there were more books to read.
Not only has this change motivated me to catch up; it has motivated me to finish cataloging my collection. Again, as a result of my most recent deployment–now two years in the past–I have gotten behind on inputting my collection and, frankly, I have lost control. With a new start on the bulk of my collection, I am able to start fresh with one box, many dividers and build from there. I then can finish up the older stuff knowing that I won’t be adding those boxes anymore until I am able to uncover holes in the collection.
So, from a new start perspective, the new 52 series that DC Comics is currently unfolding is a great jump start to me as a comic book reader, collector, and blogger.
