About fifteen years ago, Monica and I bought our first computer. It was a Compaq Presario with a 25GB hard drive. We thought it was amazing. We could get on the internet and write papers. I remember building my first webpage—a geocities site about Radio Scanning in South Carolina. Now, in 2016 we could compare that 25GB hard drive to the 918GB that my current laptop has and you can see an obvious difference. With this new computer, I am only using 227GB, freeing up nearly 700GB for future downloads and storage. The question I ask, however, is what am I doing with all of this power.
Roy Peter Clark wrote in his book, How to Write Short: Word Craft for Fast Times that “At this moment, the right pocket in my jeans contains more computing power than the space vessel that carried the first astronauts to the moon.” How much more power do we have available to us today? ComputerWeekly.com states that the Apollo Guidance Computer had 64KB. My iPhone has an embarrassingly small hard drive of 11.8GB. The iPhone 6 has three different sizes of 16GB, 64GB, or 128GB.
But what are we doing with all of this power? Are using it to advance the message of hope for Christ? Are we using it to provide aid to hurting peoples? Are we using it to usher in world peace? Are we using it to build relationships?
The enemy is using it to attack and to hinder any progress for the good news of Christ.
What are you using your iPhone for? How can it be used to the fullest extent?
Are you up to the challenge?
