Growing up in the South, we never needed to melt ice—not to mention snow. Even in the hotels I once worked for, laying down salt or ice melt was a rare occasion. If it snowed or had an ice storm—we simply stayed in and it was all gone a day later.
So, I am still learning how to lay down salt in the winter time. But, it works great. I never thought that much about it in the past. I had heard of salt truck and laying down sand for traction—but never really watch the salt remove the snow.
After several days of walking on our deck, I had been waiting for the snow to simple go away. But, given the shady location—the snow remained piled high. even after shoveling some on Monday—it still remained…until an hour after dropping salt on the deck and a complete path was clear.
It is kinda nice to open these path ways and make it safer—I feel like I know what I’m doing living in snow…for once.
