One of the favorite responses of my children, when asked about an incident that they know is not going to go well for them, is “nothing!” “Will what are you doing to your sister?” I ask— “Nothing!” “Jenny what is going on up there? (After I hear a big crash)— “Nothing!” With their hands in the proverbial “cookie jar”, the response often is “We are doing nothing!”
As sinners before God, we often do the same thing. Our sins cover us in red—and God asks us, “What are you doing?” And our response is, far too often, “Nothing!” Thankfully through the death of Christ of a cross, Jesus paid for our sin. When we confess our sin and believe in the name of Jesus we can be clean. The Bible says:
“Come, let us discuss this,”
says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
they will be as white as snow;
though they are as red as crimson,
they will be like wool. (Isaiah 1:18, HCSB)
We have a God who loves us so much that he sent his only son to pay our penalty for us. He alone is able to wash our sin away. It is only through the cleansing of this sin that we can approach our Holy God and live eternally. If you have never accepted Jesus and his payment for your sin, you can turn to him today.
