In the Army, we depend much on our gear. From helmets, body armor, uniforms, and weapons, Soldiers depend on their equipment to keep them safe but also to help them perform their missions. I once thought I was too cool to wear a helmet, until I bumped my head inside a tracked vehicle; I once kept my sleeves rolled up on an older uniform, until I got a sunburn all the way up on my arm; and I once questioned the need for regulation combat boots until my boots got scraped up. The gear that we send our Soldiers into combat with is critical to mission success.
Even more so, Christians need to keep a hold of their spiritual armor and keep it maintained. The Bible tells us to;
“Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics[a] of the Devil. For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens. This is why you must take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand.” (Ephesians 6:11-13, HCSB)
We must be careful at every turn to maintain our spiritual edge and maintain of armor through daily devotions and weekly worship. If you have gotten out of the habit, maybe it is time for you to do some maintenance today.
