The Bible, quoting Jesus, says:
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16,NIV)
Many time, when we look at this verse, we stop with the idea of “a city on a hill cannot be hidden” and talk about how we are to be “Salt and light to the world”. But, what does light mean to you? Then we say that we should bring “the light of the gospel to a dark world.” And, we should.
But what is light?
There are many attributes of light. Light helps you see better. Light removes the mystery. Light helps you follow a path in that dark world.
I find light comforting.
I love night lights. Particularly in a quiet apartment far from home. I like the comfort that soft light brings. I can see what I’m doing. I can find a place of rest.
We need to be people of light. We need to be people of comfort.
We need to be light.
I am often reminded that people do not have many other people who will listen to them. They may talk to others—but will they take time to listen to the story of others.
This is the kind of light that shines. The light that is a place of comfort. The light that is a place of rest.
A light that can shine deep into darkness and illuminate the hope that is found only in Christ.
Let you light shine before others!
