One of my favorite folders on my Google Reader, I’ve named Locals.
In it, I have news stories from Greenville Online (the online home of “The Greenville (SC) News” newspaper), WYFF4.com (the home of WYFF Channel 4 in Greenville), and Greenville Daily Photo, (someone’s photoblog of pictures taken from downtown ).
Now, I’m not from Greenville–I’m from Laurens, SC. But, I lived in Greenville County for about two years and Laurens is only about an hour from there. All of our TV stations growing up where from Greenville–so this is the media home.
It is refreshing, out here, to get a picture of life in the States. It is nice to be in touch with the latest news, events, and gossip–this is why sending a local paper to a Soldier from your home town is always welcomed.  Out here there is one major news story–Iraq. Sports–NFL. Weather–sunny, warm, and cooler at night. At home there are places that I can pronounce, maybe I’ve been there, or maybe I’d like to go there one day.Â
So, it is nice to see a piece of home–even if it is the latest drug bust.

I so agree! Thanks for the websites as I hadn’t thought to bookmark them. Every now and then I just have to read about home, and British CNN just doens’t get it.
