As we began to telework daily, one of the biggest changes I have made in my life has been the switch to daily tea. When my days were spent at the office, I was becoming increasingly aware of the negative effects that coffee was having on me. It would make me restless during the day and then, more pronounced, I would become very sleepy in the afternoon. This, of course, would lead to more coffee, which would keep me up at night which would lead to a repetitive and unpleasant cycle. To be fair, I still enjoy coffee, but in strict moderation.
For years, I have tried to go to tea for my morning drink. In Korea, I drank tea before my physical fitness, however, I would soon have coffee later in the day and slowly breaking my routine. Now, during this time at home, I have changed my routine to where I even prefer a cup of tea in the morning. I hope this habit sticks because it is so enjoyable to start my day with the calming power of tea, rather than the rush of coffee. I would say, rather biased is that coffee is popular in the US because everything must be rush-rush, but tea slows you down and helps you to think. I much prefer the idea of calm rather than the crazy rush of our aggressive norm.
The tea that I love is Yorkshire, with two teaspoons of sugar and a splash of milk. I typically steep my tea for four minutes, however, at times I may be known to get distracted for an extra minute or two. Yorkshire Tea is incredibly smooth and, with milk, rich in flavor. I have found that while it is a pick-me-up, it is also calming and restful. I love to enjoy my tea as I start the day and sit down to write in the morning.
