In the Book of Psalms, David wrote; “I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” (Psalms 119:11, NLT) When you hide God’s word in your heart, your reaction to the world around you become muscle memory.
When I prepare for the Army Physical Fitness test, I do push-ups over and over, so that when I take the test, I am ready. Muscle Memory.
When a race car driver practices on the track for hours to get the right moves, he does these same moves in the race. Muscle Memory.
When a professional video gamer runs through shooting drill for eight hours at a time, he applies these same techniques in the games he plays. Muscle Memory.
In many areas of life, we practice and practice so that when the test, the race, the game, comes by, we will be ready. This is called Muscle Memory. When you have practice a task for so long and so consistent that the steps to achieve the task become second nature—this is Muscle Memory.
Too often, we read scripture as entertainment. We get a nice idea and a nice feeling and move on. It becomes our daily motivation or our positive thought. But, if we truly want to hide God’s word in our hearts—we must apply these scriptures too our lives. We must think through them in how they can be applied in our given personal situations. As we do this, over and over, these reactions will become Muscle Memory and we will stand strong.
