With the new rules for HDTV stations and the ongoing desire to get the most programing out of cutting cable, I ran by Walmart today and picked up a new TV antenna. Most of the programing that we watch is on Netflix, Hulu, or Sling. However, as much as we enjoy those programs, we still have a desire to watch local television and network television. One of the biggest events in the near future is the World Series. I love to watch baseball, but national broadcasts are not on the MLB At Bat Subscription due to contract issues. So, I’ll be able to watch the games on FOX this year over the antenna and not cable. Other events to watch are football games, local information and weather, and the children reminded me of the Thanksgiving Day Parade. This will also be able to be seen through the antenna. So, I am looking forward to enjoying the local TV.
I bought a set of rabbit ears last year to try the HDTV antenna out and then we finally went back to cable. But after talking to friends who stopped using cable as well, I decided to give it another try. This time I bought an indoor/outdoor antenna based on their recommendation. The antenna also came with an amplifier that made all the difference. Arguably, all I needed was the amplifier—but I did not want to go down the road of adding little by little to the back of the TV until it worked. After I plugged it and set it up, I was happy to see a great picture. I also was able to sit with the kids while we watched a few moments of “The Voice”. I’m pleased that it worked so well.
