If I wrote this entry a hour ago, it may have been different. But, since I thought about it, I have to say that I won’t be buying the new DC Comics 52 week series “Countdown”.
While at times I regret not getting involved with the current 52 week series, I justified not buying it because Superman was not involved. Buying books that link back to Superman has been from the start my main reason for buying new comics–now my reasons are linked to Superman AND Batman; I don’t know how that happened but it did. Now, this new series is going to include both along with all of the other characters in the DC Universe. I’m sure that it will be a big deal and I’m sure there will be events that happen that shock the DC nation. I just think that a weekly comic is too big for me right now.
If you have read this blog for any length, you will soon realize that I’m not a comic book expert, nor aspire to be.  I write as just another reader that is finding my way around the comic book culture. I enjoy comics very much, but it is a stress reliever for me. I don’t and won’t take them that seriously. So, the only reason that I would buy this huge series is to become that much more of an expert on all of the DC Universe. The problem is, however, I don’t care about the rest of the DC Universe. I see that this series will make a small impact on the Superman or Batman story in the long run, so I don’t see the significance for my focussed little collection.
The bottom line for me is that I won’t buy “Countdown” because it is just too big of a scope for me to dive into, with all of the changes that will happen in my life over the next year.
