I was able to spend 2014 Major League Baseball Opening Day at home watching the Reds play the Cardinals (0-1 Cardinals). Opening Day, really needs to be a Federal Holiday–or at least a DONSA for Soldiers. So, when I can, I try to take leave on the last weekend of March; which luckily coincides with my Personal Quarterly Review.
At the end of the day, I was able to open my first packages of this year’s “2014 Topps Opening Day” baseball cards. While I still have more to open and organize, I was very pleased by what I found so far!
Within the first couple of packs opened, I was able to find a “Breaking Out” insert card featuring Joey Votto–Reds First Baseman.
This “Break Out ” insert was then matched by Joey Votto’s base card.
In the same pack, I was able to secure Johnny Cueto’s base card; which was an extra treat early in the opening.
Further into the packs, I was able to pick out the “Opening Day” Rookie Card of Billy Hamilton–Reds lead off batter and outfielder. I was happy to get this card early because I have only recently been reading about him and his transition to the Major Leagues. It will be fun watching him during his rookie season.
There are so many more great cards in this set; but these are by far the favorites of the night. It has been a great Opening Day 2014 and I am looking forward to a great season of watching and collecting. I hope your Opening Day was as great as mine or better. Happy Opening Day!
