In my Amazon Kindle Highlights, I saw that I had highlighted this quote from Todd Henry’s book “Die Empty”. He said;
“Don’t forget that there is always a delay between planting and harvesting.”
We get so impatient when we are building routines and practices in our lives. Sometimes, we are working to lose weight and we hit a plateau; we must keep working and remember the delay. Sometimes, we are working on a project and there is no end in sight; we must remember that every minute we spend on the project brings you that much closer to the goal. Sometimes, we spend time praying for an issue; we must wait for God to work! There is a delay between reaping and harvesting, so we must be patient. Steve Dighton, the Senior Pastoral Advisor at my church, Lenexa Baptist, said; “One rule you can never break: you will reap what you sow.” The fact remains is that we will reap what we sow.
I have been trying to grow house plants and I’ve noticed that I must be smart about what to do to help them grow. Do I water too much or too little? Do I give too much sun or too little? Do I use fertilizer or not? What I give to the plant will determine whether the plant will grow and grow flowers. It is reaping and sowing. And the same is true for our lives as well. The Bible says: “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:7-9 ESV)
Be patient in you work. Wait for the harvest, never give up. Expect the delay but also expect the harvest!
