Several years ago before I deployed to Iraq, I picked up a blanket to take with me. I remember going to a truck stop in Clarksville, Tennessee and finding a red blanket. This blanket has been treasured ever since.
For the last ten years, I have used the same blanket—I used it when it got cold in Iraq and I continue to use it in the family room here in Kansas when the air gets chilly. Speaking of cold air in Kansas, as I am writing this post, the temperature is 81 degrees at 8pm. But the living room is 10 degrees colder. The thermostat is in the living room which makes the upstairs warmer than the downstairs. Therefore, in order for the children to have cool air, we must turn the air down on the lower level. When it is cold downstairs, that’s when my blanket comes out.
My red blanket is made of a tightly woven stiff yarn that holds the heat in very well. The blanket is also large enough to fit over my legs and torso. It is a wonderful nap blanket for this reason. I love how the blanket is thick but not too thick and warm but not too heavy. It is a wonderful blanket to keep around. This is one of my favorite blankets because it does keep me warm but also went on two deployments with me.
So if you are in the market for a great throw blanket for the winter, stop by your local truck stop and see what they have. It was one of the best finds I’ve ever made.
