In my devotional time, recently, I have been reflecting much on the subject of faith. I have been rereading E.M. Bounds’ writings on prayer that have given me a renewed interest in the part faith plays in our prayers. And he reminds us that what the world truly needs is men and women of prayer. E.M Bounds writes:
“It is not the intellectually great that the church needs; nor is it men of wealth that the times demand. It is not people of great social influence that this day requires. Above everybody and everything else, it is men of faith, men of mighty prayer, men and women after the fashion of the saints and heroes enumerated in Hebrews, who “obtained a good report through faith,” that the church and the whole wide world of humanity needs.”
We need to have a true faith. The Bible says;
“…faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1 (ESV)
And we need to have this faith in our lives.
As I was running the other day, I reflected on true faith and I considered that faith is not wringing your hands, hoping that God will answer your prayer. Faith is having the assurance that God will hear you and honor your prayers. We get so caught up in theatrics of prayer—crying out and begging, when what is truly needed is a simple faith—a simple assurance that says “yes, he hears our prayers and will answer it.”
We need that in this day and age. We need men and women who are praying with assurance and hope. Will that be you?
