The morning began as it has every morning this week; slowly. We stopped by Target picked up a needed TV table (the last house the TV went on the mantle) and headed to the house. I chipped away at the kids’ room—unpacking toys, clothes, and one fully wrapped pencil. Monica put together the table. At about four, we headed to Cracker Barrel for supper. We’ve been needing some vegetables and basically “real” food ever since our visit with friends in Mississippi. (A wonderful meat loaf dinner.) Then, we enrolled our children into the AWANA program at Coronado Baptist Church. They had a wonderful night!
While we were at church, I was impressed by the focus of this church in reaching out to the world through missions. It seemed as if every hall way had some mentioned of supporting missions in one form or another.
One project was particularly encouraging was the gathering of used clothes to send across the border to Juarez, Mexico. Outside my hotel room, I can see the valley full of street and house lights of a city known as one of the most dangerous cities in the world. Regrettably, I never knew much about this city until about six months ago when I received order to Fort Bliss. All I have ever heard about it has been focused on the danger. Here in my new church, there are people taking opportunities to reach out to those that live there—peaceful people, people who have been oppressed by the dangerous that have ruled their streets. While I am unauthorized to travel there, I pray for peace in this neighboring city—ignored by many churches—and that the gospel will be preached there.
My updates may get interrupted over the next couple of days due to our moving out of the hotels and into the house. We are not scheduled to get internet in the house until Tuesday, 15 January 2013, so who knows if I will be able to update until then.
