I wake up early. Sometimes it seems that I don’t wake up early enough. Sometimes people ask me why do I get up so early–0430.
Well, I like to run at 0500. I usually, unless it is a interval run day, run about 40 minutes (I think this is about 4 miles), but that is my time to be quiet. This is a time to think about my day–or not. It is my choice. I like this silence to continue as I get a shower and eat breakfast–I’ve started to eat by myself in the Italian Room, so I don’t have to listen to the TVs. Then I get to my office to spend about two hours of quiet to do my devotional stuff and get some things done.
Now, I am not seeking to be a recluse–but after about 0900 it is non stop. And besides that, here in Iraq, there is never quiet. Never.
It is quiet right now. I can here the air conditioner that never stops, someone sweeping the floor, someone else walking, and a few people talking. When you live on a FOB with 2000 people, it will never be quiet, so I take the quiet when I can get it.
