One of the greatest new year’s goals I think I have ever made was to write every day in January 2015. By the end, of the month this turned into blogging every day for the year of 2015, and soon it was the goal of posting every day for four years. This little decision revolutionized my writing.
At its most basic elements, writing is a skill. If you do not practice it, you will lose it. So, writing every day was a great and practical way of writing more. I knew that if I did not write, I would have nothing to show for it. I may have some great thoughts, but nothing written down. Frequently, I am challenged to improve my writing and many times, I am overrun by life and the best I can write is a 250 word blog post. But, it is 250 more words than I would have written-if I hadn’t sat down at all.
This was the greatest new year’s goals because it took something that I enjoyed and forced myself to stop-even for just a moment-and focus on the one thing that I would enjoy doing more of. I am not the greatest writer. But, I am a writer. I am a writer because I write. And I write daily. At the same time, I constantly feel that this isn’t enough-I need more.
Over the next few weeks, I will be considering what my goals for the next year are. This will lead to a great opportunity of how I can do more with my writing and with this blog. Stay tuned!
