As I travel around and meet new people, one truth is always a constant. Everywhere I go, I will meet hurting people. One of the best ways to help hurting people is to bring a smile.
I was working on a briefing this week, when I found a verse in the Good News Translation (GNT) of the Bible. I do not typically use the GNT, so it was very refreshing when I found a delightful verse written in such a way that instantly brought encouragement. The Bible says:
Smiling faces make you happy, and good news makes you feel better. (Proverbs 15:30, GNT)
While that seems like almost too much common sense to spend time on, when we think of the actual implications and the practice of the verse, it becomes wonderfully adventurous. While we must be wary of becoming fake or disrespectful, we must find ways to smile in the midst of hardship. People need those around them who smile. Because smiling helps those around us. We need to be people who smile with a reason to smile, we are to bring happiness and joy to a room.
Those who have a joy in their heart need to bring happiness to the world. I see people all the time who are looking for happiness in the wrong places. Through our smiles, we can be the people to lead people to find true happiness. And that true happiness is found through belief in Christ Jesus.
