As I am running more and more, I have watched the local Germans run through the same routes that I run. They run much smoother than I run. They run smoother.
Many times when I run, as well as a lot of runners that I’ve run with through the year, I run in a forced sprint. I’m always trying to push my pace or hold my pace. I’m always catching up from lack of running or trying to show that I can go harder.
This is not what I see from the local runners. These runners are running smoothly through their workout, seemingly without a sweat. Granted, they are living in the same locations for year after year—a luxury that I haven’t had. But, the difference is that they run everyday and they don’t push themselves for every run. There is no reason to race, they run with simple familiarity of the location and with the pace they have chosen.
How am I adjusting to this? I am trying to run more days with less distances at a slower pace. I just run along my route fighting the urge to check my pace or race against it.
There is no rush, There is no race.
Running regularly brings running strength. Running strength bring running pace. It just doesn’t happen overnight.
