Last summer, I had the opportunity to enjoy Longboard Skateboarding. I loved riding along the sidewalk and the process of learning to skate. One thing I was not able to learn was to freestyle skate in a skate park. I would love to try one day, but it would take a lot of work and probably a lot of pain in falling. With that said, however, I have a tremendous amount of respect for those that are able to do it.
There is a certain amount of skill and discipline to do the skateboard tricks. Honestly, simply riding along the ramps seems to be tough enough. As I watch different YouTube videos of skateboarders, I look at them a different way. There was a time that I just looked at the kids having fun and nothing more. But, after spending time around skateboarders and skate parks, I have a new appreciation for how much work that is done to get to the level many of these skaters get to. I think that skateboarding is a wonderful way to spend time. It takes discipline, skill, and builds relationships—as they spend time with one another. How is this different from those that are on the football team or play a musical instrument? So, I am definitely not opposed to skateboarding, as long as it is done safely with proper safety gear.
I may never get a chance to skate in the skate parks due to time and age. But, I really enjoy watching these skilled young people show their skills when I pass.
