The family and I had a great visit to the little village of Hatch, NM today. Hatch is the Green Chili Capital of the World. Before I moved to El Paso, I had never known what a Green Chili was but once I leave I will certainly miss the availability of Green Chilies being mixed with everything. Green chilies are a green version of the red chili pepper. Last September, our family had the opportunity to visit the Hatch Chili festival and while we were there drove through the town, we notice an interesting restaurant to check out. The restaurant has visitors lined up around the store waiting to get in. We didn’t stop there that day but promised ourselves that we would return and today was the day.
The restaurant’s name in Sparky’s and they serve Burgers, BBQ, and Espresso. Their food is award winning and recognized across the nation as being among the best. Last year trip advisor ranked Sparky’s as number three in the nation in the category of burger places. New Mexico Magazine awarded Sparky’s “Best Eats” in 2011 for their Green Chili Burger. As for me, they deserve with all of those awards! I chose the “World’s Famous” Green Chili Burger and certainly wasn’t disappointed.
And they serve this delicious food in a great environment. Surrounded on the outside and inside by interesting memorabilia from restaurant chains and long ago artifacts, we had a delightful time looking at all of the different items on the shelves, on the walls, and standing in the floor.
We were also treated with live music as we finished our lunch.
I completely recommend a visit to Sparky’s in Hatch, NM. My only regret is that we won’t time have the chance to return anytime soon.
