I saw today that Apple will be offering their first stylus in November 2015. I hope it does well, but I also realize that I have a long way to go before I can write with a stylus.
I bought a cheap stylus a couple of months ago while I was still in El Paso. I had an app on my kindle that would allow me to take notes with it, so I thought I would try it out. I failed. Miserably. I love to write with my hand. However, the transfer from paper to screen simply seems like to much of a stretch. Part of me thinks that it is partly the stylus’ fault—it has a wide tip and it was not a very expensive stylus in the first place. Part of me thinks that I just need to practice more—but it really is like trying to learn to write all over again. Then, part of me does not believe that technology has caught up to the point where the transfer is easy yet. Apple has now made one, so maybe in a couple of years; it will be cheap enough to try it. However, write now? It is just like writing my name on those credit card signature pads at Wal-Mart—it looks like a great idea but never quite works.
Technology is changing so fast. There will come a day when writing on an iPad will be commonplace, but I might wind up being one of those old people everyone talks about.
