This Sunday, the Old Testament reading was from Genesis 18: 1-15, where verse one reads:
1And the LORD appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day. (Gen. 18:1, ESV)
I was struck, while listening, how much that means to me now, actually living in the same land that Abraham walked. I can truly understand what “the heat of the day” means. This is not your normal, South Carolina humidity heat of 80-90 degrees–this is the heat of 110 degree and bright sunshine beating down on you–where after awhile of exposure, you don’t even want to move. This same heat that Abraham ran the meet the three men who stood in front of him. (verse 2).Â
Of all the things that go on in this war, it is good to see the Bible come alive–to be given a new understanding of the world of the Old Testament.
