In my journal there are Bible verses and quotes printed at the bottom of every page. On the bottom of today’s page was from the book of Proverbs:
“The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9 ESV)
I cannot think of anything more fitting to be read at this time of year. Many people across the world are deciding on their New Year’s Resolutions and making plans for the next year. It is critical that these goals are covered in prayer. Without covering them in prayer and subsequently following God’s plan, we are aiming for our own goals without the blessing of God. God could honor our plans, but without prayer, we will never know if we are shooting at the right target.
We tend to make plans by following our own desires and our own constraints. Honestly, we may be selling ourselves short, because God has no constraints. We also may be surprised by God’s will when his plan is suddenly revealed to us mid-year. We must stay tuned to God’s will especially as we make our plans for the future, as they will guide us down the path that God wants us to travel and prepare us for what lies ahead.
This year, as we get further down the road in 2016, have you prayed about what God would have you to do this year? Or have you made your plans according to your own desires without understanding Gods plan.
As you consider your plans for the new year, I challenge you to open your heart for God’s plan to become known to you.
