Several years ago, I saw an old slide projector at an antique store for $10. The projector soon broke after I bought and the bulb were too expensive to replace, so I have since thrown that away.
However, there was included a full tray of pictures of someone trip to Paris.
It is fascinating to me to see. The pictures were taken in 1968—some family probably didn’t thing too much about it…it was just a trip. There are very few pictures of the people who went on the trip. Most pictures of what they saw—captured brought home to show friends and family of their adventure.
I see these pictures and imagine an excited woman (context of the photos lead me to believe that it is a woman behind the lens)—an excited woman standing in her living room with the projector illuminating a pop-up screen; telling her story. I also imagine that her 4 friends—excitedly interrupting as she talks.
Maybe it was her first trip on an airplane?
Maybe it was her first trip out of the country?
Why did she go?
How did she afford to go?
Was this the once in a lifetime trip she had always dream of going on?
The tray included a typed registry of every slide in the carousel. Most of the descriptions were straight forward—others detail what the meaning of the places are. In the descriptions, I will copy exactly as they are typed. I will not use the photos of the people on the trip—to protect their privacy. However, when a random person is captured as a part of the photo—their fair game.
