I woke up this morning very early and, as I was out doors until sunrise, I was able to enjoy seeing the clear sky and the full moon as the sun began to rise over the airfield where I was running. One of my enjoyments of running is to be able to be outside and I am always grateful to be able to get outside and run.
Later in the morning, I was reminded that it was Earth Day 2016.
Earth Day in the United States is a day where we celebrate the Earth. I believe it is much more than that. It is a day where we can thank God for the beautiful world he created and recommit ourselves to becoming better stewards of the Earth. I was on twitter when I thought of Psalm 24 and quickly posted verse one.
Psalms 24:1 says:
“The earth is the LORD’S, and all it contains,
The world, and those who dwell in it.” (Ps 24:1, NASB)
Ultimately, this is the truth of Earth Day. The Earth is the Lord’s, along with all who dwell here. We must care for it, for we are mere stewards of this wonderful blessing.
Later in the day, I was in class discussing how an increasing number of cities have pollution so great that their citizens must wear masks to breathe.
There is much to do to clean up our environment. From the air we breathe to the water we drink. All of it belongs to the Lord, but we are its stewards. Join me in recommitting to doing more to help our Earth to thrive and stay green.
