The coolest thing happened to me yesterday. I was able to see Monicathrough a TV monitor during and after a Video Teleconference(VTC) that the unit had with the Family Readiness Group. It was a meeting, of course, but after the meeting I was able to see her and talk a little.
As nerdy as we are–we don’t web cam. We aren’t against it–we just don’t–or haven’t. We may start soon, now that we’ve gotten a taste of what it is like.  I really would like to see the kids. But, up until now, we haven’t done anything like that. We make our phone calls, write our emails, read our book, and send our packages–and that’s the world in which we live.Â
Yesterday was a nice surprise. I didn’t expect us to have that moment. But we did.
It was kind of awkward as everybody left the room for me time spend some “alone time.” And awkward, in that, I was in our conference room in Iraq, talking to my wife in the conference room in Baumholder, Germany. How does that happen? I have no idea!! But, it worked.
To me, she looked like she was at the end of a very long tunnel. One where, I could see her–she looked great, by the way–but could not touch her. Nor, could I jump in the car and take her home. It was nice to see her though. We haven’t talked like that in four months, and we have another six to go.
It was a special opportunity–it was nice that my commanders allowed that time for me–after all, the VTC link was ours for two hours…why not?
