I just finished looking at an article in Wizard Magazine from February 2006 called “Superman through the Ages”. In this article, it rates all of the incarnations of Superman from Television and Movies. The article leaves out the most recent Cartoon Network Superman and “The Superfriends” Superman, which were pretty good. But they have harsh words to say about Dean Cain.
“Lois and Clark” was on the air for Four Years in the Sunday Night time slot; not too bad. I think it was a pretty good show…really. Was it comic-bookish?…sure. Was it cheesey?…ok, yes. Was it sappy?…I thought it was. But that was the whole point of the show–to focus on the romance between Lois and Clark. I think that is why they called it “Lois and Clark”, but I could be wrong. In fact, I thought the show began to go down hill, when Lois and Clark became “Lois and Clark” and endingthe key story of the romantic suspense. That’s another reason why I’m a little disapoointed that Superman and Lois got married. Even though they dated for fifty years, it was still too fast!
In Cain’s defense, he really didin’t do so bad. It was the nineties, that is what the people wanted…look at the comics Superman was drinking coffee with Batman just ten years earlier.

I thought the series had its moments when it focused on the inherent romantic tension between Lois, Clark & Superman. Both Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher were charming in their roles.
The show lost a lot when Lois discovered Clark’s identity, a blow I feel was also apparent when the comics followed suit.
Anyway, the first two seasons were cute and I usually don’t put a lot of truck in what Wizard says.
