This afternoon, I went into the hospital to visit a Soldier.
As normal, I walked to the elevator and pushed the up button. There was no response, so I pushed it again. A hospital worker came and also pushed the button. It didn’t work for him either. Another worker, a nurse, pushed the down arrow and that worked.
I told the other man; “We should’ve tried that and then ran it up after we got in!”
He chuckled as we all walked inside (I crack myself up).
As we walked in, the nurse hit button number one, and I pushed number eleven.
The man looked at me without touching the panel and said “It will reset when it bottoms out.”
How many times in our lives do we wait to hit the bottom –or “bottom out” before we reset? Do we wait until we get to the very bottom before we decide that we need something to change?
The Bible says
Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, (Acts 3:19 ESV)
Repentance means turning from our sin and following Christ. That is, going one direction at one moment and turning to go another. Repentance is something we need to do, not simply when we bottom out—when our world is falling around us and life is at the brink or even beyond disaster. We must repent early before we bottom out. We must repent early so that we may not hit rock bottom.
In many ways, repentance is resetting our lives to follow Christ
Where are you today? Are you in danger of hitting rock bottom—or are you already there? Reset your life and follow Christ.
