Several weeks ago, I left for a field training exercise that turned into long days and short nights. Little time was left to blog or do much of anything else. At the end of the training, we were blessed with a four-day weekend, which I am enjoying day three. This break in the action has allowed me to wash laundry, clean dishes, and get caught up on work. I think I am getting back on track and beginning to look forward, instead of looking only what is right in front of me.
Getting back on track is not as easy as I would like to have it because it requires rest. While running at high levels for several weeks, my body just became tired and, unfortunately rest is the only solution. It is also the biggest cure for being behind. Saturday, I was able to do next to nothing—ever though I was able to clean my room, do laundry, and dishes. But, for the most part I stayed away from anything that required thought. It was a nice break to be able to clear my head, but I am beginning to want to get back to work again.
One of the best lessons, I have remembered in trying to return to normal life is a lesson from David Allen’s “Getting Things Done”. He said to always ask the question: “What do I do next?” This has been key for me through the year to prioritize my life, but has certainly provided a framework for getting going again.
