As I looked at my thermometer tonight, it reads 37 degrees and falling. For some, that may not be a big deal; but for me, it tells me winter is here. As you may know, I have been living in El Paso, Texas for the last year. I don’t know how often the temperature dropped that low—but when it did it was in the dead of winter—January maybe. This year, I’m in Kansas and I will experience a different winter than I did last year. We may see snow. We may see a lot of snow. Last year, I think was a mild winter with little snow in Kansas—hopefully, the clouds did not save up for a double dose this year.
I grew up in South Carolina and we had an annual snow storm or maybe two, if was a very bad year. We had several ice storms as I recall. Those storms were always interesting because everybody talked about snow and we woke up the next morning to a sheet of ice.
It is winter again and I think I am ready for the cold and the snow. I’m only here for a year, so I can probably endure anything. I hope to see a train in the snow—although it may take a little work to accomplish that. I hope to have a couple of snow days this year. I wish we had a fireplace. Mostly, however, I expect several months of cold air outside. I expect to quickly walk from the car to the classroom building, cold runs in the morning, and a lot of hot chocolate.
It is winter again; I guess I better get ready.
