Monday, 9 February 2015, was a fairly average day. Nothing spectacular happened—nothing terribly busy. It was actually wonderfully normal.
The day began with me rushing out the door to the office and a quick run to PT (Physical Training) at 0630. The formation is always early; early enough to be in formation to salute the flag when reveille is played with its booming sound across the Army Post. I think this morning it was muffled by the sound of the nearby highway, because I didn’t hear it. We saluted anyway.
I ran four miles, showered, and ran by Starbucks for coffee before my 0900 Staff Meeting.
The staff meeting is an opportunity for all the staff to gather together to tell the boss, what it is that we plan to do for the next week. One by one, we brief our checklists and the details of our plans This is followed by his comments to guide our courses of action. It is also a great part of the week to be able to see everybody after the weekend. Sometimes, we aren’t able to see each other through the week, so it is good to see them first thing Monday morning.
From the staff meeting, I went back to the office. I checked and answered my email, followed up on some projects, and checked on the times for my activities tomorrow. It is important that I am in the right place at the right time. Tomorrow, it is an early morning event.
Once I figure out what I’m doing on Tuesday, I open my lunch bag to find my Ham Sandwich, Doritos, and Granola Bar ready for lunch. Monica puts these together early before I run out the door. As I eat, I take some time to read. I’m reading Daily Rituals by Mason Currey.
After reading, there was more work in the afternoon; Strong Bonds Retreats, Personnel actions, more emails to answer, and one counseling session as a Soldier stopped by to talk. The afternoon ended as I made a brief visit to see one Soldier in the hospital.
All in all, it was a good day—nothing spectacular, but sometimes I get so much more done when it is not.
