D.L. Moody once was speaking on the subject of places of worship. He commented on the fact that many enter into a church, a cathedral, or a sanctuary with utmost reverence and seriousness. “They act”, he said, “as if there is something strange about the house of God.” Moody addressed the idea that wherever a Christian is, God is there. And along with the church; “Every place ought to be holy to a true child of God.”
How do we act? You and I. Do we act all put together on Sunday Morning and fall apart when we leave the building until the next week? Do we live the words of D.L. Moody and render every place holy—because God is there?
We need more of this in our lives. We need to live holy as if spending our lives in the greatest cathedrals of all time—whether we are in church or not.
Following through on this commitment means for us to truly “pray continually” (1 Thes 5:17). One of the reasons, the church is a reverent place is because of so many of the prayers of the saints came from those pews. Wouldn’t it make a difference if more of those prayers for our world took place in the world? Praying is a way to bring God into our lives—into our failures and into our success. We need to pray as we go—as we walk along always praying continually and bringing God to the people all around us.
