This morning, I had the honor of providing the invocation and benediction to the 100th Anniversary of the End of World War I Act of Remembrance at Fort Bliss, TX.
These are the prayers from today’s ceremony:
Invocation:
Across the Commonwealth countries, people gather on November 11th to honor to fallen.
Peter Marshal once preached following the Second World War,
“It is fitting that we remember those who lie so far away beneath a cross, a star, (or a crescent)—they gave their all. What more could they do? They gave the most that they had—their very lives. Can we ever forget that?” (Wartime Sermons, pg 195)
We answer on this 100th Anniversary of the end of the Great War; No, we cannot forget, and we shall not forget.
We will remember them.
Let us pray:
Almighty and Eternal God, from whose grace and peace extends to all. May our hearts remember those Soldiers “who shall not grow old” but continue in the memories of our peoples. May this time be a stark reminder of the price for freedom and peace; for your honor and your glory, A-Men.
Benediction:
God of all grace, lead us from this Act of Remembrance to live worthy of the lives that were given for the sake of peace in our world. A-Men.
