Our world has changed and is continuing to change. I am reminded of this fact almost daily. Yesterday, Monica and I received our new Amazon Echo in the mail. It is amazing! And we are starting to get comfortable using the voice activated features to help us with little tasks that we sometimes would do by pushing a button or writing something down. The observation we made was that this is the first stages of the more changes to come.
Reflecting back on the bag phone of the 1990s. That first widespread wireless phone was the first stage of the cell phone movement. The phones became more and more powerful while also becoming smaller and smaller from that point on.
Right now, the Echo will play music by voice command. It will add to a shopping list, add to a task list, and play the local weather forecast. If you’re interested, without making a full review, just suffice it to say that we are very pleased with the Echo. But, the possibilities are endless—one day we should be able to listen to ball games, dictate texts, and give us our daily calendar. Beyond that, we may be telling it to turn on the burglar alarm, turning out the lights at night, or setting the temperature of the room.
We consider ourselves lucky to be a part of the delivery of some of the first Echos that have been made available. It will be interesting to see where the technology will take us!
