I began thinking of a tune this morning that will probably carry me through the day. A song so simple but delightful. A song that reminds me of my childhood and the joys of being young. A song to sing in hard times and in good. This song always puts me in a good mood.
Walking in the Sunshine by Roger Miller.
Walkin’ in the sunshine sing a little sunshine song
Put a smile upon your face as if there’s nothing wrong
Think about a good time had a long time ago
Think about forgetting about your worries and your woes
Walkin’ in the sunshine sing a little sunshine song.
(from Roger Miller – WALKING IN THE SUNSHINE Lyrics)
Roger Miller, was in my opinion the greatest song writer of all time—he was absolutely amazing. There are songs of his that still come to mind after months, if not years, of hearing them. When I first started thinking about the song, I was looking out the window waiting for the sun to rise. I first thought the song was from the “Robin Hood” soundtrack—but, no, it was simply Roger Miller, being Roger Miler. Roger Miller had a way of mixing up words and telling stories through those words that first sound a little silly, but once you step back, you see how wonderful they truly were.
So today, now that this song is in my head…I’ll be walkin’ in the sunshine singing a little sunshine song.
