My great-grandfather was born near the northern tip of Scotland. After studying about my family history in Scotland and Scottish culture, it is hard to miss the sheep farms that dot the Scottish countryside. As you could imagine, the shepherds of Scotland perform much of the same role that shepherds have for centuries. They feed their sheep, they guide their sheep, and the protect their sheep from harm.
There are many times that each one us could use the help of a good shepherd. The Bible, in Psalm 23, talks about a good shepherd that who is just a prayer away. The Amplified Bible translates Psalm 23:1 to say; “The Lord is my Shepherd [to feed, to guide and to shield me], I shall not want.” (Psalm 23, AMP) David says that “The Lord is my shepherd.” He sees the Lord as “His” shepherd; it is a personal relationship that David has with the Lord. Isn’t it comforting to know that Jesus can be our Shepherd to feeds us, guides us, and shields us! There is no wonder David said “I shall not want.” When you have a loving all-powerful God becoming your shepherd, what more do you need or want?
Be assured that if you are in need of feeding, guiding, and shielding, a personal relationship with the Shepherd is just a prayer away. Jesus said “I am the good shepherd.” (John 10:11, ESV) You can turn to him today and he will be your shepherd.
