I opened my new FIFA 2009 for PlayStation 2 this morning.
Now, I’m new to Soccer. So, I picked a team I knew–Manchester United.
The commentary is actually amazing–so much better than listening to John Madden on EA Sports Madden 2007, which I own, repeat his commentary–“Oh, where did that truck come from” over and over. The British have such a beautiful use of the English language–even on a video game.
The game play can be challenging or relatively easy. Which is so much like real soccer.
Soccer can be effectively played by anyone–all you need to do is kick (dribble), pass, and shoot. So, EA makes this option available–giving the player the option to just do those three things.
But, of course, there is more to it. Once, you master those–which I am far from it–you can move to using all ten fingers to play the game. Similarly, real soccer can be complex and skillful–once you learn how to play.
I had to laugh, a little, maybe from embarrassment. On the team rankings, Manchester United has Five Stars. The Major League Soccer (USA) teams all have two–maybe three at the most. It is time, the Americans wake up to the “World Sport.”
I’m sorry to say, however, that my Manchester United team got beat 0-4…so, I’ve got to keep practicing–maybe I’ll score a goal tonight.
